37 Weeks

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 by Stacie

Same old, same old. My blood pressure is good, I am 215 pounds, I “measure” 46 weeks pregnant and the babies are reactive and have good heart rates.

I had false labor contractions all through lunch but, of course, as soon as I was hooked up to a monitor they stopped. My uterus is like a car that makes a strange noise; the moment you take it to the mechanic, it stops. The midwife suggested raspberry leaf tea. This will apparently “tone” the uterus, and calm down the false labor caused by an irritable uterus while simultaneously prepping it for the real deal. I am drinking some now and it tastes like, well, like I boiled raspberry leaves. I can’t really recommend it; earl grey it ain’t.

I continue to be told that I could go tomorrow, or it could be 2 weeks. Our doula has a hunch it will be July 4.

Brian’s office threw him a party today to celebrate the twins; alas, he missed it because he was at the doctor’s appointment with me. Nice cake though, huh? Much better than the boiled leaf tea. They took a picture and saved him a slice.

No news. Blood pressure, weight, baby movement, everything all good. Could be tomorrow. Could be two weeks from now.

36 Weeks

Well, last night was false labor night. (also know, more encouragingly, as “pre-labor”.) Contractions were noticable and uncomfortable but didn’t have a clear pattern and didn’t progress at all. I did have “bloody show” though, so I had some hope. I paced, took warm showers, ate toast, paced more and finally got some sleep around 3AM. By morning the contractions had stopped, but I made B. drive me to my already scheduled doctor appt. for fear I would drive off the road given how exhausted I felt.

1 lousy cm. I am dilated 1 lousy, stinkin’ cm.

The only good news was that one baby has dropped and is well and truly engaged in the pelvis.

In more standard news, the babies remain reactive, I gained 1 more pound since Monday and am up to 211, and my blood pressure was 125/85. The midwife said not to worry about the blood pressure, that the rise was still in the OK zone, and probably just due to not sleeping much last night anyway.

Back to waiting.

Local Area Hotels

These hotels, for those out of town guests who for some strange reason do NOT want to be repeatedly woken up by screaming babies all night, are relatively close to us.

Hartford Marriott Farmington

Avon Old Farms Hotel

Courtyard by Marriott Farmington

West Hartford Inn (this place has always struck me as a little suspect and skeevy, but it is 1 1/2 blocks from our house.)

35 1/2 Weeks

As of Friday I was 209 pounds, my blood pressure remains excellent and the babies remain responsive (though I poked them as they were trying to sleep through the test).

I still can’t sleep for more than 1 1/2 hours at a time and my hands and feet are swollen to a level that is hard to believe. Oh yes, and I’m nauseous a lot, though my appetite doesn’t seem to be affected. Fun.
