Haha..I can just picture him spitting it out cause Maddie does the same thing! Except, she used to like it when I first gave it to her. Now she gags and gags. But I really do want her to eat it because it’s so good and nutritious…so I started mixing it with other foods she likes, and it works like a charm!

avacado was a huge hit here when mine were babies, and then they stopped eating it, and now it’s a huge hit again.

None of mine would eat anything from a spoon, though – finger feeding only for them. It was, um, messy. But cute. I wonder if J would like carrots?

If you really want him to eat it, mix it with banana. Just a little at first, then increase the amount as he gets used to the taste. Just a sneaky little way I have found to get babies to like some new foods.

Yeah, I actually read somewhere that children will often reject a food just because it is new, and to offer multiple times before giving up. So, we do plan to do that, and even bananas weren’t a hit the first time. I must say, though, his reaction to avocado was much stronger than to anything else so I suspect they will remain in the “no” list.

We are both looking forward to and dreading real food for this reason… I think it will be an adventure in delight and frustration.

So, in no place to give advice, I will just mention research by a colleague of mine that is somewhat counterintuitive. In her study they found that multiple exposures of a new food were really important — sometimes up to 10 different occasions before the baby was willing to eat something new. Hard to imagine persisting 10 times, but apparently it can get kids past some hesitation at new things.

Both of mine seem to love every food known to man…except avocado. It’s the only thing they have just absolutely refused to eat.

thats funny… my guys love avocado. it was there first real food and they hate bananas.. btw i love the pics you post.. your little ones are always so well dressed and so adorable.
