So Far Today…
I have spawned two whirlwinds of utter destruction. So far today…
- F has climbed up a folding chair from the back.
- J has pulled my laptop down onto his lap.
- F has climbed onto the arm of the wicker love seat on the porch and attempted to get from there to the top of gardening supplies cabinet.
- J has rolled the yoga ball down the stairs, knocking over a table at the foot of the stairs.
We’ve been up for over two hours and I haven’t gotten dressed yet. However, I did get breakfast, though thinking I could prepare breakfast for myself was the error that led to the near destruction of my computer. Silly me Other recent twin discoveries include:
- You can climb over the baby gate.
- You can climb through the cat door.
- You can climb out of the bathtub.
I know they are bored, but taking twins out is incredibly hard. One goes north and one goes south. One tries to run into the road while the other tries to hurl herself off of high objects. One is trying to climb into the bubble machine while the other is eating the giant lite brite toys. One is starting a thermonuclear war while the other restricts himself to random acts of terrorism.
Those of you who don’t have walkers yet, be scared. Be very scared.

It is really tough once the twins start walking and climbing. We had to twinproof everything – nothing on tables, taller gates, wires wrapped up, drawers locked, etc., etc., etc. Do you have any teenagers you could use as a Mother’s Helper in your neighborhood? Mother’s Helpers can be lifesavers. I did use them to babysit as much as just help me keep the twins occupied so I could get things done around the house for a little bit. Good luck! It really does get much easier as they get older!

You poor thing. I know it’s hard enough watching one crazy toddler, who insists on climbing, jumping from chair to table, pull the cats tail, creating works of art on my china cabinet with her crayons…. I could go on.
What about making them a sandbox in the back yard? That seems to keep her occupied for a fair amount of time.

I’m smiling at this even as I dread the future. This is Jayden to a T. He would destroy the house if we let him.
I wish I had that kind of energy. I’m really thinking of just sectioning off a room when the girls get older and throwing a few toys in there and just let them have at it. It’s not humane but at least I’ll survive those first two years.

oh hell, how do I pause them at this, the standing only stage? They’re driving me nuts as it is, not sure how I am going to cope with more terrorism!
*sigh*

I AM scared…VERY scared.

Did you post this specifically to scare me? We have a three-storey house. And a dog door. At least my older daughter was never a climber, so I hope they will be the same. I could block her out of a room with an ottoman. Hah!
My boys are now able to get onto 3 of the 4 limbs they need in order to be able to crawl. Ronan sometimes gives up and just rolls to where he wants to be. I think they will be mobile this weekend though, the rate they’re going.
Stay, babies, stay!

Yeah, we don’t go out much either, but mine are still in the wobbly stages of walking. I’m simultaneously thrilled and terrified at what’s to come. My mom bought us these harnesses – http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000COWM8C/
Much as I’m not loving the leash imagery, I still think we’ll try them – at least for getting to and from places across scary parking lots.

Yikes. I am scared. It’s hard enough chasing down the crawlers. James looked like Flash in that video, he appeared on screen so quickly it was unclear how he got there. Hope that things get a bit calmer for you all soon.
S&J got a radio flyer wagon for their birthday, and though I know they’re harder to maneuver than a stroller, I’m told that kids are a lot happier sitting in them, so pulling them around in it may be worth it. Our friends’ twin boys (born in March) were still willing to be in it after they started walking. We’ll see. It’s gonna be a long winter for all of us non-Californians, though!

Love, love, love, the video! The look you got from F when she was on the chair was priceless. I get that one all the time… it’s the “yep, I climbed on this chair, and I’m going to get that laptop no matter what.” Thank you for making my morning! Have a wonderful day

My kiddos are only 3.5 months, so you are making me nervous! In our area, we have several “Centers for Creative Play.” http://www.centerforcreativeplay.org/
Maybe they have one in your area…its like a giant indoor play area that you buy a membership to. At least they could run and play but be semi-contained!

Ok, I was mildly scared with the post…after watching the video I am trembling in my chair!!! They are all over the place! I love how she has her fit and then looks all cute sucking her thumb as she crawls back onto the chair…like ‘doo do do, nothing to see here, just sucking my thumb…nope, not doing anything wrong’…SO adorable. And I am LOVING her dress.

Yeah, this stage is depressing and difficult for me. I liked it much better when my bambinos were a little less mobile. I hate to wish my children older, since every freakin’ day with them is a gift, but I have to admit I’m quite looking forward to an easier stage. If it exists, that is.

Is it too late for me to change my mind?
{gulp}

I have two toddler girls 18 mo apart, and sometimes I feel like I have twins. SO many times, I’ve wanted to take a pic or vid of them doing things like that, so now I am! VERY cute! Us moms know our kids too well.

By the way, I do think it’s great that you are filming the “other” story too, not just the aww wookie the cutesy wittle stuffy wuffy! I’m doing that for my iMovie on my girls as well…stuff of them crying, us up late, etc. It makes you appreciate the good times, and I think we’ll want to remember the frustrating times, too, because they are magic, in their own, special, horribly frustrating way.
Or, at the very least, you can show the videos to them when they’re 18 for guilt trips, “you better appreciate me now,” paybacks are hell when THEY have kids and for really good Mother’s Day gifts.

Gulp is right. Holy crap. My little guy started walking this week and I wrote about how happy I was. Was I INSANE?
