Where to Get Lead Free Toys Not Made in China
Do you know how hard it is to find toys that aren’t made in China? Even Melissa and Doug is made in China. Papaya Patch, the local natural kids store, has toys not made in China but I draw the line at a $95 mermaid doll that F will discard in 5 seconds.
My mother has tracked down a series of web sites (and I’ve supplemented it) selling high quality toys made in either Europe or the US so you can have at least a little more confidence that the workers weren’t children chained to the factory machines and that the paint isn’t loaded with lead.

Specific safe toy recommendations from Cool Mom Picks…
Sara’s Toy Box is a another good site about creative play with more discount codes (including Oompa, Palumba and Three Sisters) and information about good toys. She seems to be pretty on top of getting good discount codes from toy companies so is worth bookmarking if you are a frequent toy shopper.
Enjoy the lead free toys list from a woman more thorough than I am. She notes: I recommend these toys because their stores say they are organic, natural, and non-toxic (ummm, under .06 lead).
If you have more site recommendations or more coupon codes let me know.

I can’t speak for the webiste itself, but the bradn Viking Toys are phtalate free, and made in Switzerland. http://kazootoys.com/vikingtoys.html
You can find them locally at The Toy Chest in W.Hartford, and The Perfect Toy on Rt.44. My LO really digs their little cars and trucks.
Pervious to the lead scare when I really only worried about pthalates, PVC’s, and BPA which as you know are in most plastic toys, I found Iplay,Tomy, and Alex toys which state on their packaging (as does Viking) that they are phtalate free. Now both they are made in China, so I am a a litle less thrilled with them. On the other hand most of their toys I have seen don’t have paint on them, so I worry about them less than I do Playskool and Fisher Price.
I also like http://fatbraintoys.com/.

Super helpful. Thanks.
These recalls are getting out of hand. I’m afraid that this is only the beginning and we’re going to see alot more as we get into the Christmas time. I now go to http://www.leadtoyrecalls.com every day to make sure I have the latest news.
It’s also got guidelines for toy safety, a list of safe toys, and how to dispose of unsafe toys.

I can personally vouch for kazootoys.com that some others have mentioned–they are a well known store in my town.

I just found this site, http://www.kangarooboo.com they offer handmade products and phthalate-free baby boys with brands like Vulli (Sophie the giraffe). The search by country is nice. They also donate a % of your oder to kids charities which I think is a wonderful gesture.

Hi, I like this idea of having a place to find lead free toys. I have also written an online page about where to find lead free toys. My link is http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/441363/where_to_purchase_leadfree_toys_this.html I also describe in there a little on what each website has for types of toys. There are a few companies that I was able to find that are lead free and those are listed on there as well. Good luck!

I can’t believe the lack of manufacturer attention to this, especially from those that don’t make goods in China. If my stuff was made elsewhere I’d post that fact all over my web site and advertising. If I was a retailer, I’d have signs pointing out every toy not made in china as well. Of course, those toys would fly off the shelves.
It’s hard to find sites that help you find non-chinese toys, and a lot of the sites that do focus mainly on wooden toys. I found a couple sites that help find mainstream toys that my kids actually ask for. I’ve found a lot at http://www.toys-without-china.com and FAO Shwartz. FAO has a country search, but who can afford $300 for a stuffed bear?
