Montessori, Day 2
Today was our second “trial day” at the Young Children’s Community at the Cobb School, Montessori. I brought the kids to their classroom and then said goodbye and watched them for 45 minutes through the one way mirror.
I can say that separation anxiety is not an issue.
They will continue their transition on Monday when they will go to school with the other children (YCC is Monday – Thursday only so there have been no other students in their classroom yet.) I will bring them in at 8:15 and pick them up at 9:30 and we’ll decide then how long they’ll stay on Tuesday.
I really appreciate how carefully they ease new students into the classroom rather than just having me dump them off and wave goodbye.
I also really appreciate how calm the classroom space is. One thing that contributed to that was the relative dearth of stuff. The materials are gorgeous but they are kept to a few. I’m going to try to emulate that here and pack up 75% of the kids books and toys. I can rotate things in and out but I want to have just a few things accessible at any given time.

SIDENOTE: My nose seems to be drying up at long last. I think I am over the hump of what I shall call the Worst Cold Ever™.

I have HEARD that twins do better adjusting to preschool/school, because they have someone familiar there with them. After seeing two singletons off to preschool/school, I’m looking forward to seeing if it is indeed easier with twins.

Can J and F come talk to Princess about this separation thing?

i’ll be thinking more happy thoughts for you on moday, but clearly you won’t be needing them. yeah, F & J!
today the nurse at my gp devised a plan to (hopefully) finally end The Fever That Will Not Endâ„¢. here’s to us being over our respective humps.

That sounds great. It’s wonderful that they let F&J come when no one else is there. I hope it goes great on Monday.
We try the rotating thing and I really like it. We probably should have a larger percentage in the basement at any given time, but nevertheless, the nice thing is that old toys become new again when they emerge from the basement.

I want to try the rotation thing – it certainly works with my daughter who is 5, if we bring things out. I recently went through her bookshelf and moved all the baby books to the boys’ room; she stormed about it but discovered a lot of things, mainly Dr Suess, she hadn’t read for ages and is loving rediscovering them.
Good luck with the 4 days of freedom! I am sure F&J will do beautifully.
